Capsule #123 ft. Cannons

What to wear in December.

Hello hello!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in the US 🫶

Landing today with some inspiration for what to wear for all the December events. Work parties, New Year’s Eve, Christmas socials - sometimes they hang over you because you just do not know what to wear and you feel pressured. I often find this super difficult and I think that’s because it needs a little more thought than your day to day. After taking a step back to make these guides for you, suddenly it all feels a little clearer. I hope you enjoy!

˚🎄⋆⁺₊❅‧ December outfit guide ‧₊✩˚🦌⊹♡

There are five outfit formulas below that I think will work for 95%+ of your December plans. Each look meets the following criteria:

  1. Contains (at least) one thing that will make you feel special

  2. Contains (at least) one thing you are very likely to already own, which you can use as a base

  3. Contains pieces that are easy to style in different ways so that you’ll wear them again and again

That’s a long way of saying: I don’t think this is reckless! This is not a plea for you to go and fill a basket with £130 worth of new stuff (why is it always that much), but to help steer you in a direction based on what you already have or naturally gravitate towards. Here goes:

  1. All black, but fun

For everyone who tries to wear something different then defaults to all black because it just feels better. If the multiple cut-outs on this Mango top feel too much for you, try this sleeveless alternative from Cotton On, or this cosy long sleeve M&S version.

  1. Silky and sultry… but warm

If you love all the silk slips in the shops at the moment but pick them up and wonder how on earth you aren’t going to shiver to death wearing that… Here is your solution. They look great over trousers, and great with a t-shirt under. A coloured t-shirt tends to look less office vibes.

  1. For a bit of drama

One way of romanticising winter is wearing a totally impractical lace cami and justifying it with a big furry jacket. Plus these Uniqlo satin skirts have underskirts for a bit of warmth at least, and come in a few colours. The wine and olive are particularly great. Add a hip belt for extra drama and your favourite boots.

  1. Obligatory sparkles

For the magpie girls. I think glitter and sparkles look best paired with a different, more relaxed fabric - like a t-shirt or some lovely knitwear.

Links: Cardigan (No Emotions), skirt (Zara), boots (Jonak Paris), embellished scarf (Free People)

  1. For the jeans evangelist

You really are allowed to wear your jeans everywhere. Jeans and a nice top is literally always on the table, but during the festive season, you can really go for it in the top department. This Aligne poofy sleeved one is excellent (also in black or navy if silver is too much for you), and a faux fur stole is a fun way to add even more glamour.

And finally…

This week, Cannons popped into Capsule to share what’s 🔥hot🔥 and what’s not 🙅‍♀️ …

Cannons are a band from LA. Their new single ‘All I Need’ is out now, and their co-headlining tour with Bob Moses starts March 2026.

🔥🔥🔥Hot🔥🔥🔥

Frisson, playlists from friends, windows down/volume up, the invisible thread between performer and listener, finishing a new song you can’t stop playing back, time bending in creative flow, full moons, the sound of walking through fall leaves, synchronicities, messages within dreams, having deja vu at the same time as each other, interesting facts about the universe, people who aren’t afraid to be themselves, friends who make you feel seen, people who listen deeply, laughing so hard it hurts, kindness, helping others, finding what you thought you lost tucked away in a safe space, remembering to be gentle with yourself and others

Hot Not… 🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️

LA Traffic, flight cancellations, Christmas shopping, fluorescent lighting, cilantro in your teeth, art with no soul, apologies without changing behavior, talking louder instead of deeper, dimming yourself so others feel comfortable, energy vampires, forgetting rest is productive, overthinking your own reflection, when someone says “you know who you look like…” as you brace yourself for the results, a perfect take that you forgot to hit record on

📺 Watching: Pillion in the cinema, Mina Le on why you don’t need to be productive, and this extended cut of Rosalía on Subway Takes.

📖 Reading: ‘Is Gorpcore dead?’ by Emilia Petrarca and Avery Trufelman, as a precursor to Avery’s longform podcast on the same topic. Plus this article from Tori West, asking ‘Is Vogue Embarrassing Now?’ in light of the mag’s cosying up with camp Bezos, ditching Teen Vogue, and that Timothée cover 🥲.

🎧 Listening to: Stardust, the Danny Brown album, ‘Crystallise My Tears’ by Danny L Harle and Oklou, ‘Home’ by Rachel Chinouriri and Boyish, and ‘Die Happy’ by Holly Humberstone.

Thanks for reading! I’d love to hear how you’re finding Capsule - let me know here. And if you have a friend who might like it, do refer them! 🥺

See you next week 💋
