Capsule #70 ft. Emily Ash Powell
That time I got stuck in a hurricane in Florida. Plus an exercise in feeling good!
Hello hello,
Today’s issue isn’t a regular one as I’ll be on holiday by the time you read it for a post-fashion month break. 💆♀️ In lieu of regular programming, I’ve done a small feel-good exercise and invited you to do the same. I promise it’s worth your while!
That’s the introduction I wrote a few days before my trip. I’m popping in now, on Thursday 10th October to share that my trip started in Florida, where I happened to get caught in Hurricane Milton. I wrote about my experience for Elle and you can read it here:
Back to some housekeeping: There won’t be a newsletter next week while I’m away, but we’ll resume as usual on the 25th. Thank you for allowing me to have a break. Surely future content will be better for it… 🫶
Have a great weekend,
Holly x
A few weeks ago, my friend sent me a list of things she loves.
It was a screenshot from her Notes app, a long list of small, specific and mundane aspects of her life that bring her joy. She has a stressful job (a junior doctor currently in A&E), and pausing to remember what’s good is a vital way of keeping her in a good headspace.
She asked me to send my list back, and I remember at first thinking, I’ll do this when I’m in a better mood, as if the answers I’d come up with on that morning might not be good enough to capture how good life can be.
I opened my Notes app and started a list, assuming I’d need to come back to it a few times to get it finished. What happened instead was much nicer: a montage of small moments came to me, I stared at one spot on the wall and watched these tiny vignettes replay in my mind. I moved through categories - rituals, things I do alone, food, drink, loved ones, seasonal shifts - and jotted down them down. Here is that list:
Really can’t recommend this enough as an activity and then a resource for you to have and come back to. Of course all the best things in life are close to you and accessible, you just have to focus on them and make time for it. After finishing I wondered if I should now do a list of things I don’t like, until I realised the absolute reverse effect that would have…
And now it’s your turn. 🖤
Share your list here, anonymous or not, you choose. I would love to read these on my return. If you are struggling, think about categories (places, activities, food, small habits, what you dream of having a free weekend to do, etc!).
Think of it like the Hot & Not list’s more wholesome cousin.
One more thing…
I also put together a roundup of 10 looks from the SS25 shows that have left an impact, now that the buzz and viral moments are fading away. See them here!
This week, Emily Ash Powell popped into Capsule to share what’s 🔥hot🔥 and what’s not 🙅♀️ …
