Capsule #95 ft. Darshita Goyal
What to wear to your friend's wedding. A comprehensive list!

Hello!
Hope you’ve all had a nice week 🫶. In today’s newsletter, I’m helping you find something to wear for wedding season. When you live in jeans it can be hard to switch gear and figure out what you like for a formal event, so hopefully this helps you narrow down what you might like!
I’m also sharing back your thoughts on SPF and ageing from last week’s issue, dropping some great recs for your weekend, and Darshita Goyal is here with an excellent Hot & Not.
Have a great weekend!
Holly x
P.s. this issue is quite image heavy. Click ‘read online’ in the top corner if your newsletter gets clipped (especially in Gmail 🥲).

💍💒 What to wear to your friend’s wedding 💒💍
Or sister’s or cousin’s or colleague’s. Finding something great to wear allows you to get excited for these events! Not knowing where to start is such a blocker to allowing that pleasure in. I hope this helps!
I’ve selected options across a range of price brackets. Shopping for occasion-wear is generally not the cheapest endeavour, and I do think there’s value in getting something that will hold up for years of wear. There will always be more weddings and you’ll be grateful to have a good option on standby.
You might notice that there are no fully black looks. I asked people on my Instagram yesterday if they’d wear black to a wedding, and the result was really split! A slight majority think it’s fine, but 47% said they wouldn’t. I chatted with people about it and found that black is more widely accepted in the US than the UK (Americans were shocked it was even a talking point), that some people check with the bride first, and lots of people think it’s fine themselves but avoid it for fear of ruffling feathers.

I also asked if pale/butter yellow was too close to white for a wedding, but 87% people agreed it was fine
Other options I haven’t list here but which can be great— borrowing something from a friend, renting something, or buying secondhand. Once you feel confident with a brand’s sizing and your body shape, you’ll see there are so many options on Vinted and eBay. If Reformation dresses fit you well, for example, the secondhand market is your oyster. But for today, a selection of new things for your perusal.
Ok let’s go!!!

Last week’s Capsule was all about SPF anxiety and whether our obsession with it is preventing us from enjoying the sunny months. I asked you how you felt about SPF and your face ageing, and here’s what you said:
46% said I act chill, but I’m not deep down
39% said I’m at peace
14% said I’m not into it…
Some of you expanded further (thank you!). Some highlights:
“I admittedly have had botox a couple times, but not in a while. I may do it one or two more times just to chill out the "elevens", but I'm generally not concerned.”
“As a person in recovery I find myself being grateful for the opportunity to age.”
“It gives me a deep-rooted sense of panic in my quiet moments. When I'm out with friends or lovers, I can feel beautiful and not care. But I live alone so there's a lot of one-on-one time with the mirror. This anti-ageing shit hit me like a train at 28 – me and my friends joke that it feels like an older age than 30, somehow. I notice lines around my eyes and definite sagging of cheeks, prob not visible to other people. I don't think I'll get botox or anything, I really don't want to, but who knows.”
“The fact that every woman has the same face now, with fillers and botox and buccal fat removal or whatever else, is way worse than aging naturally.”
And finally…

making invites for dinner parties, dating your friends, glossier merch, somatic therapy, journaling without deeping the aesthetic, reposting your bf’s small business, condiment claire, ugly chicken’s waffle fries, gift wrapping, baby sleep music for adults, being a phd student, fuguku bags, bullet points in texts, squishy jellycats of ugly frogs, laura thompson hand soap (no, you need to smell it), wishing randoms happy birthday when you see it on their story, singing lucy won’t you wake up on loop, pulling your own tarot, making maps lists for every city you visit, asking questions, silly tattoos with no meaning, non-chefs sharing recipes online, watching things for discourse, trying to stay in touch
Hot Not… 🙅♀️🙅♀️🙅♀️
icks in general, putting people in boxes because of their accent or ethnicity, gift cards, commenting before reading the article in full, wellness drinks, weddings that are movie productions, the word ‘bespoke’, saying yes cause you can’t say no, text debt, the ssense-ification of brand socials, hating on opening acts at concerts, mushrooms (all kinds), the word ‘cute’, being cliquey, health studies that change their mind every month, overhyped reservation-only restaurants, shaming someone for being earnest, exposing people for copying ew

📺 Watching: Sinners in the cinema. Plus the Coachella highlights: Addison Rae and Arca performing ‘Arcamarine’, Ravyn Lenae performing ‘Genius’, Charli performing ‘Girl, so confusing with Lorde’, and of course, the Lady Gaga run of Bloody Mary/Abracadabra/Judas/Schieße.

Zeus ⚡️
There’s been lots of talk of recession indicators recently, but Zeus is here with some actual data: Google searches in the US for “press on nails” and “blonde to brunette hair” are up 10% and 17% since February respectively. It looks like shoppers are already making steps to recession-proof their spending…
