Capsule #20: The Halloween Edit š ft. Meg Wriggles
We're landing a week early so you can prep

Hiiii everyone,
Welcome to your Capsule Halloween Edit šš» Whether you have spooky plans lined up or not, this issue might encourage you to get into the spirit of dressing up and having fun. I want to give a big shoutout to Rhea, my wonderful intern, who has been so excellent this week working on the guides. š¤
A tip for this weekās newsletter - itās quite image heavy, so if your phone is struggling to pull it all through, hit the āRead Onlineā button at the top to view in your browser.
Regular service resumes next week! If youāre new here and want to check out a recent issue that isnāt so Halloween focused, click here.

P.S. We know Halloween isnāt the most pressing of issues right now, and your social feeds will be full of Israel-Palestine footage, opinion, and calls to action. Weāre carving out time to educate ourselves on the history of the conflict, listening to voices from affected communities, and reminding ourselves that writing to our elected officials is as important as sharing stuff to social media.

A note before we get startedā¦
Halloween is supposed to be fun. Thatās something we donāt ever want to lose sight of. But itās also a time when historically we end up buying crap we truly never use again, despite holding onto it as we move from flat to flatā¦
With that in mind, weāve tried to choose costumes that have elements youāre likely to already own. If not, make asking your friends your second port of call. Ideally youād have time to check a charity shop too. And if all else fails, our suggestions are affordable and accessible, and can be used for different fancy dress iterations in the future. Enjoy! And if you can face up to sending us a picture of your looks, do reply to this email or tag us on Instagram (@capsule.world) š¤
Part 1: History & Literature
Admittedly this category is potentially the furthest away from your regular clothes, but so many of the pieces can be transformed into staples youāll wear over and over. A few years ago, a corset would have felt niche, but not so much now. And itās so fun to feel a bit regalā¦

This is just the beginning. View the rest of our history and literature looks here!
Part 2: Movies
In our view, the strongest category. Pulling these together gave us a whole new respect for costume designersā¦

Part 3: Cartoons
These looks are pretty accessible, but more importantly, they are the comfiest. If you want to feel warm, in familiar fabrics, and comfy shoes, a cartoon costume might be the way to go.

Part 4: Celebrities
The one youāve all been waiting for. Narrowing this category down was hard, and if you dress up as a different celeb weāre dying to see it so do share!

And finallyā¦
A friend this week asked if itās an ick if someone youāre dating isnāt up for dressing up with you for Halloween. I guess the point here is that said person is the opposite of āa good sportā - something lots of us value in a partner. When we see people who are up for trying things and giving it a go, it makes us loosen off ourselves and remember that most things arenāt that bad, or that serious, and are worth trying. That being said, in the Halloween context, I think itās fair to not want to spend a bomb on a polyester costume thatās going to make you sweat and feel gross and end up in landfill. In that case, direct your lover-in-waiting to the Capsule guides, remind them that spending one night with a new persona is a fun thing, and take pictures to send to us.

This week, Meg Wriggles popped into Capsule to share whatās š„hotš„ and whatās not š āāļø ā¦

All-knowing Alan is foresees a switch up in the hosiery department. For our skirt and dress lovers this winter, instead of wearing those plain black tights that are laddering from their unwavering usage, it might be time to invest in a new, more exciting pair (think colours, patterns, and even jewels). Black tights walked so their wilder cousins could runā¦
