The Capsule Festival Fashion Guide

Plus: Tara Nome Doyle on the Hot & Not, pop culture news, and recs for your weekend ahead

Hello!

I realised Primavera is next week, and then the festivals and fun summer days just keep rolling in (who’s going to Glasto?!). With that in mind, I’ve pulled together some festival outfit inspiration for you. As always, this is of course not limited to dancing around in a field. In fact, the playfulness, freedom, and creativity born out of those moments would do very well to be transported to other parts of your life.

Big love to you this week,

Holly x

As ever, there are big images in this newsletter so if you’re missing some click ‘read online’ in the top corner.

Here’s what kind of summer you are having…

First things first, I wanted to share back the results from last week’s poll asking what kind of summer you are having this year. In case you missed it, here were the options:

And for the results:

  • In the lead: 33% of you voted for Miley Cyrus (being sober and loving it, turning down extra work, having a great selection of sunglasses, Pilates, dressing for your mood)

  • Next up: 23% of you voted for Dua Lipa (travelling, eating the cuisine of the place you’re in, cocktails, having a ciggy with your bf)

  • Then it was Lorde, with 20%. Lorde summer involves periods of reflection in nature, coming off the pill, reading literature by women, cycling everywhere, and dress androgynously

  • And the remainders: Addison Rae (12%), and Brat 2.0 and HAIM (both 5%). Read more about each summer type here!

‎‧₊˚✧🪩˚₊‧ Festival fit guide *ੈ🎡‧₊˚

I want to start off by saying it is very EASY to get carried away with outfit planning for a fun event like a festival. Of course you already have a wardrobe full of stuff that will just work, especially if you add some fun accessories, and this guide might serve to remind you what’s already there. Or it might inspire you to try something new, something that makes you feel good, which may just help you enjoy the event ahead a little more…

  1. Your practical go-to

The most tried-and-tested formula: it is of course your big comfy denim shorts and a little vest or bandeau. It’s pretty much all you need, but there are endless ways to jazz it up. A bandana scarf is good, as is a good belt, as is a colourful crossbody bag.

  1. For when you’re ready to take it up a notch

You’ve settled in. You know the lay of the land. The weather is good. You’re ready to debut that pocket belt you told yourself was an investment purchase. This is your fun little skirt/skort (I want you to know that this Free People one does have shorts built in), paired with a comfy t-shirt. Maybe it’s even a band t-shirt you just bought on site.

  1. For when you’re ready to play

You’ve remembered you’re here for a good time and that you are young and beautiful. Seize the day!

  1. For your big night out

To enjoy some serious dancing, you need to be: in comfy shoes, hands free, and wearing something you feel good in. I think this fits the bill!!!

  1. For when you’re in recovery mode

You’re feeling a bit fragile. But you’re determined to make something good of the day ahead. You need to feel comfy but also put together. That’s where the linen blend trouser comes in, complete with Birks to give your feet a break. But you’re going to jazz it up with a cute top, a bandana if you’re up to it, and a good necklace.

  1. The next level: when you’re in spiritual relaxation mode

Listen to me: you can wear a kaftan and a bikini at a festival. You literally can (assuming you get some good weather). Especially if you’re in an environment with access to saunas and cold plunges and all of that. This is for when you’re very much in that “at one with the earth” stage. Your Lorde Solar Power era. You’re thinking getting a crystal wouldn’t be a bad idea actually. You’re not running from stage to stage but rather wafting around, letting your spirit be moved by whatever (it’s a craft tent), and spending more time than usual gazing up at the sky.

  1. And finally: for when you want to have that textbook festival feeling

It takes a real commitment to carry a pair of wellies all the way to a festival. But if you make it, you reap the aesthetic rewards. They are of course best with a mini dress, and these studded hip belts are a great addition.

This week, Tara Nome Doyle popped into Capsule to share what’s 🔥hot🔥 and what’s not 🙅‍♀️ …

Tara is a singer-songwriter with Norwegian-Irish roots based in Berlin. Her first single ‘Down with You’ was released in 2018 and has since been streamed over 6 million times. When Tara released her debut album in 2020, Der Spiegel described it as “like Kate Bush singing songs by Nick Cave at Berghain”. Her third studio album Ekko is out now!

🔥🔥🔥Hot🔥🔥🔥

RuPaul's Drag Race, tuba playing, hiking, black tea, swimming, 100% chocolate with cacao nibs by Vivani, water glasses by Granit, Berlin, vegan bibimbap, lavender oil, dogs (especially my dog Florence), rich, calm colours (particularly blue), pears, Susanne Sundfør’s music, knitting, Norwegian and Irish folk music, open-mindedness, reading, therapy, daring to stay sober, sleep, fermentation, women in power

Hot Not… 🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️

Coffee, unlimited screen-time, holes in my socks, the London subway, recklessness, processed food, insomnia, big fields of planted grass (boring), depression & anxiety, monocultures, tech oligarchs, loneliness, mosquitoes, fast fashion, drugs, misogyny & racism & homophobia, intrusive thoughts, plastic in the kitchen

📺 Watching: Forever on Netflix, Addison Rae’s Popcast interview, Jensen McRae covering Ethel Cain, and HAIM at Radio 1’s Big Weekend.

📖 Reading: This article from Ellen Atlanta on why celebrities deny having cosmetic work, and this article from Daisy Jones on why she stopped trying so hard to make new friends as an adult.

“Alcohol often helped: I found socialising easy if I’d been drinking, and closeness easier too. But you shouldn’t have to drink to “get through” an interaction. The whole point of socialising is that it’s supposed to be fun, and good for you, and happen naturally. Being around loads of people isn’t supposed to be an endurance test.”

- ‘Why I Quit Trying So Hard To Make Friends As An Adult’, Daisy Jones for British Vogue

🎧 Listening to: In songs: ‘Afterlife,’ the new Alex G song, ‘Man of the Year’ by Lorde, and ‘Honey Blonde’ by Joe Jonas (bear with me). And in albums: caroline 2 by caroline, and Getting Into Heaven by Sedona.

Sam 🐾

Sam was delighted to learn that “strawberry picking near me” has been the #3 trending “near me” search this May in the UK. If you have some free time this weekend it might not be a bad idea to join the rest of the crowd looking to touch grass. 🍓
